I am Cynthia Jones, Founder of Mother’s Friend and Beyond. 17 years ago on July 27, 2001 I was blessed to deliver a healthy and happy full term baby boy. This did not come without a lot of fears and tears. On February 12, 2001, I was put on bedrest which would last for the next five months.
During that time I remember not having any real answers, but knowing I was willing to do whatever was necessary to protect this life nestled safely inside me. After arriving home to share the news with my husband, we had a new challenge to face and conquer. My husband was an amazing support and I could not image how I would have made it through that time without him. We faced my changing hormones, fear of preterm birth, morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum), boredom, the need to be mom, and the emotional rollercoaster of being a wife that could not be a superwoman at that moment together.
After a few months of reading books, watching television, and endless thinking, I accepted my bedrest and prepared for my child’s birth. It occurred to me that there were so many mothers and fathers that deal with this type of situation. However, what happens to the women with no support system, and yet they still had to deal with the same worries and fears.
I considered how comforting would it be for the excepting mother & dad to have the support they needed during their required bedrest or any other hardship with their family. Wondering if someone knew the small concerns, the large concerns, who had an empathic listening ear, or even wanting to provide a helping hand was there.
In April 2001 while I was on bedrest a Mother’s Friend and Beyond was born. What started as a challenge for me and my husband has turn in a mission and passion to help and serve others. Thank you for taking the time to support a Mother’s Friend & Beyond for 17 years. I hope you will continue on this journey with me and is just as excited about the future as I am.
“Doctors may prescribe bed rest for many different reasons. Their hope is that by taking it easy it may lower the risk of preterm birth or pregnancy complications. Today WebMD states almost 1 of every 5 women is on restricted activity or bed rest at some point during her pregnancy.” MD, Pagano, Trina. (2016, August 03).
